Why Spotify QR codes belong on every release

A Spotify QR code links to a track, an album, a playlist, or an artist profile. Scanning it opens the Spotify app directly on both iOS and Android with no friction, no search bar, no hope that the user finds the right song among multiple artists with similar names. This is the right tool for any musician, label, or brand putting music on physical materials.

Release flyers, vinyl sleeves, merch tags, and event programs are all natural homes for a Spotify QR code. A 'Scan to listen' prompt alongside the QR code converts every physical touchpoint into a listening session. Playlists work especially well: a curated set of similar artists, a mood playlist for a product, or a workout playlist for a fitness brand.

Use the full Spotify share URL from the app (open.spotify.com/track/...) rather than the spotify: URI. The share URL opens in the app if installed and falls back to the web player if not, which is a better experience than a failed URI launch. Always test the scan before printing at scale.

How to Create a Spotify QR Code

1

Paste the Spotify link

2

Customize the design

3

Download your QR code

Before you print, test the file itself. Drop your download into our online QR code scanner and check that it reads back exactly what you typed.

Where artists put Spotify QR codes

  • Share your latest release: vinyl sleeves and merch tags let fans listen the moment they hold the physical release.
  • Playlist promotion at events: a festival program or flyer sends attendees straight into a curated set instead of a search.
  • Artist profile sharing: a press kit or one-sheet links directly to your full catalog instead of a plain text handle.

Static or dynamic: which fits your Spotify QR code?

Static QR codes are free forever and never expire. Dynamic QR codes let you change the destination later and track scans, and every free account includes 10 of them for life, no credit card required, no watermarks. Both have valid use cases.

Spotify QR code FAQs

Does the QR code open the Spotify app or a browser?+
The open.spotify.com URL opens the Spotify app if it is installed, and falls back to the Spotify web player in the browser if it is not. This is why we recommend using the open.spotify.com share link rather than the spotify: URI. The URI fails outright if the app is not installed, whereas the share URL always works.
Can I link to a track, album, playlist, or artist profile?+
Yes, any of those. Get the share link from the Spotify app: tap the three-dot menu on any track, album, playlist, or artist, then Share, then Copy Link. The resulting URL is in the open.spotify.com format and works correctly in a QR code.
Does the person scanning need a Spotify account?+
Not necessarily. Spotify's web player allows limited free listening without an account. Free-tier users can listen on the app with shuffle mode. Paid subscribers get full on-demand listening. The QR code works for everyone. What they can do once they arrive depends on their Spotify account level.
Can I use this on vinyl record sleeves or physical music releases?+
Yes, this is one of the best uses for a Spotify QR code. Print it on the back of a sleeve, on a CD booklet, or on a cassette label. Fans can scan to listen digitally while also having the physical object. Just note that if the track gets removed from Spotify later, the code will lead to a broken link.
Will the QR code work in countries where Spotify is not available?+
Spotify is available in over 180 countries as of 2025, but is still unavailable in some markets. In those regions, the QR code scans fine but the link lands on a 'Spotify is not available in your country' page. If you are distributing in regions with limited Spotify access, consider also providing a link to another streaming platform.
Can I customize the QR code with Spotify's green color?+
Yes. Spotify's brand green is #1DB954. Set the foreground to that color against a black or white background. Adding the Spotify logo in the center makes it immediately recognizable. Test the scan after adding the logo and keep it under 20% of the total area to ensure it does not degrade scan accuracy.
What is the difference between Spotify Codes and a QR code I generate here?+
Spotify has its own Spotify Codes feature. Those are the bar-code-style audio waveform codes only readable by the Spotify app. The QR codes you generate here are standard QR codes using the open.spotify.com URL, readable by any camera app. Standard QR codes are more universally scannable because the user does not need the Spotify app specifically.
Do I need an account on QRCodePrime to generate this?+
No. Generate, customize, download for free with no account required. If you want to save codes for later or use dynamic codes, create a free account. It includes 10 dynamic QR codes free for life.
The code opens Spotify but says the content isn't available. Why?+
Either the track, album, or playlist was removed or made private after the QR code was generated, or Spotify's catalog for that content differs by country since licensing varies internationally, making certain releases unavailable in some regions. Confirm the link works when opened from a different country's app before assuming the QR code itself is broken.
Should I link to a single track or an entire album?+
For a specific song reference, like a wedding's first dance song or a workout playlist highlight, link to the track. For an artist promoting a full release, link to the album so listeners hear it in the intended sequence and discover other tracks instead of just the one you featured.
