Why no sign-up is possible

A static QR code is just your content turned into a pattern. Your browser can do that by itself in a fraction of a second, so there is nothing for a server to store and no reason to ask who you are. That is also why we never see what you put into a static code.

When a generator makes you register before the download button appears, it is a business choice, not a technical need. Usually the goal is an email address, or a code that quietly runs through the company's own short link so it can be switched off later.

How to spot a generator with a catch

Three quick checks before you print anything from any tool:

  1. Can you download before you register? If the file only appears after sign-up, read the pricing page first.
  2. Is there a logo or a faint mark on the file? Open the download at full size and look at the corners and the center.
  3. Where does the code really point? Upload it to our online QR code scanner. If the address it shows is a short link you do not own, the code depends on that company staying happy with your account. If it shows your own address, the code is static and yours for good.

Sometimes you do want the code to run through a redirect, because it lets you change the destination after printing. That is a dynamic QR code, and it is the one thing here that needs an account, since the link has to be saved somewhere.

Every download is full resolution. Use SVG or PDF for anything printed, because vector files stay sharp at any size. Use PNG for screens. Keep a quiet white margin around the code and test the final file before it goes to the printer.
